Regardless of what all the affiliate gurus and companies will tell you, it isn’t just like ” OK now I have all my links pointing back to my site, I have my PPC campaign running, and I have everything read I can get my hands on – and now it’s time for the money to come in”. Yeah Right! It takes hard work to make things happen and plenty of focus on the tasks at hand.

The question isn’t do I sell my own products or do I sell products from a merchant – its YOU and your committed work ethic that make the difference for your business.

Even if you do your marketing correctly, and your site does generate a lot of traffic and you refer thousands of visitors to your sellers, there are still many traps and setbacks along the way that can minimize your commission check.

I first started getting my feet wet in 2006/7, but it wasn’t until 2008 that I finally learned what it takes to actually see the financial return for all the effort I had put into it. In reality the trick wasn’t about working harder, just working smarter.

In the 2 years of just “getting by”, what impacted me the most is the following:

1. Check your niche out and stick to the right affiliate program

2. Never settle for an affiliate program with less than excellent support

3. Quality before Quantity (not some mediocre product line-up)

4. No delays or excuses in commission payouts

Now this will not guaranty success, however, it is the building stone for your business.

Guess what – You are the one who makes or breaks your dream – it’s your commitment and hard work that brings in the harvest of a successful business. There isn’t anyone else out there; not your neighbor, not the affiliate guru, nor the mentor – it’s your commitment to succeed that makes all the difference. Of course a mentor will bring you the big money faster, but it is YOU who puts the one brick on top of the next until you have built your dream business.
